Glenlyn Academy’s 1st Steps programme is a unique dance, music and drama programme for 3 to 6 year olds. Every single 1st Steps class is tailored to discovering and fulfilling the potential of each child and nurturing their individual creative development. Through a combination of music, dance, mime and song, children are introduced to the basics of performing in a structured, fun and enjoyable atmosphere. 1st Steps classes help children develop and improve their self-confidence, co-ordination as well as musicality, dance and performance skills.
1st Steps teachers specialise in teaching dance, music and drama to Glenlyn Academy’s youngest students. All students enrolled on to the 1st Steps programme are given the opportunity to perform in Glenlyn Academy’s two showcases every year and are entered for medals, awards and examinations with the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing).
Parents receive verbal feedback on the child’s development every term and a written report every year. Glenlyn Academy’s 1st Steps programme prepares all students for the Pre-Foundation classes in Ballet, Tap and Technical Jazz.
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Develop confidence and ability to perform on stage and in the studio as part of a group.

• Understand through guided practice, develop teamwork and listening skills.
