During the Coronavirus crisis, students have been staying at home, taking classes online through the GA Virtual Studio.
But as well as taking their classes, students, their parents and teachers have been working on a very special project – creating a dance music video to the song ‘You Should be Dancin’ from Saturday Night Fever the musical.
Each student was asked to film themselves dancing to the famous Bee Gees track at home, using their own choreography.
Students, parents and teachers were incredibly creative with their choice of routine, location and costume.
Over 70 GA students, parents and teachers feature in the uplifting video that was designed not just to get students dancing but also to enforce the sense of community that extends throughout Glenlyn Academy; even when students are not physically in class.
The video has proved incredibly popular online; just over an hour after being posted on social media, it had already been viewed over 1000 times.
In a special message to students at the end of the music video, Diana Washbourne, Principal and Managing Director said “[I’ve seen] so many creative ideas, and everything danced in so many different locations. Well done everyone. I am sure you will have had as much fun making them as I have had watching…Take care everyone and I will see you soon”.
During the Coronavirus outbreak, all students have been taking classes through the GA Virtual Studio at home. By the end of the second week of online classes, our on demand video content had been viewed by students over 1000 times. Students have also been participating in live one to one video lessons.
The GA Virtual Studio launched on 20th March and in just two weeks has built up a wealth of video, class, knowledge and theory based content. Students can follow online exercises, learn routines and even take part in quizzes to boost their theoretical knowledge. It is hoped that the GA Virtual Studio will continue to grow and develop and will eventually support the work that is done in studio, once we return.
Following government advice, Glenlyn Academy’s studios remain closed, however we hope that sometime in the near future we will be able to return.
